On the Move

We have a mover! Two weeks ago Kayley started to do what we labeled “tripod scooting.” Basically while sitting she uses her hands to pull herself forward while one leg is down folded in front of her and her other leg is bent so a knee is up and her foot is on the ground so she can use it to help push herself forward.

She’s been doing her tripod scoot in our kitchen mostly since it’s a smooth wood floor. She has tried to do it on the carpet, but hasn’t been as successful since it’s harder to scoot on carpet in general. Before and during her practice of this skill she has also been practicing getting in the crawling position, and how to go from the crawling position to sitting. And she has learned how to go from lying on her tummy to the crawling position. It’s really been exciting to watch each new skill she is developing, and each new variation of it as she learns what works best and gets her to where she wants to be.

On Saturday night, while she was in the crawling position, she pulled her legs up underneath herself twice and moved forward for the first time. She did this again on Sunday right before our bible study and moved forward even more. Monday and Tuesday she was having fun crawling after toys she wanted. I was having fun crawling right behind her and pushing the desired toy a little more out of her reach so she would crawl more. She is really perfecting this skill fast and is even picking up the pace too. It’s crazy how much she has advanced in this area in such a short amount of time. 

Crawling

One thing she does need to work on and remember is that it is always a good idea to look at where you are going. There have been several occasions where she starts crying because she was looking down while crawling and crawled into a wall, table leg, couch, etc. During all this though she is teaching us areas in our home that need to be child proofed or moved. Today I had to close the door to one of our bathrooms because she discovered Hoshi’s water dish and food bowl are on the floor. We also need to move our bathrooms’ trash cans under the sink so she doesn’t try to crawl to them and get into them. Don’t want the baby to eat cat food, used tissue or floss!

And speaking of on the move, we have a new car! We realized we needed more space than what either of our cars offered for things we want to do, and everything we need to take with us, so we decided it was time for an upgrade. We’ve been car hunting for a while, but finally decided on the Hyundai Veracruz. We really like it and are happy to have it. We’re still getting used to it since we only just got it Monday night, but we already like it more than the silver car (which we traded in) and think our road trip to Cali will be a lot more comfortable now. The only problem is that it does not fit in our designated parking space (which is surrounded by four posts since it is a corner covered parking spot), and the closest guest parking spots are really narrow, so if a car you’re parking next to is super close to the line, you can’t get the car seat out… So it’s parked on the street where the white car used to be parked and the white car gets the covered spot. I guess I’ll just build up more muscles whenever I carry Kayley out to the car in her car seat and with our bags. We’re totally thankful for finding this car and being able to get it. Thank you God!
