Happy birthday, Jesus! And happy first Christmas, Kayley!
Christmas was entirely different this year. 1) It was Andrew and my 2nd Christmas together. 2) Kayley was out of the womb. 3) We were in Cali at my mom’s. 4) Christmas was on a Sunday so there was a 10am family church service at my hometown church.
We had breakfast together as a family and then got ready to go to church. We decided to do stocking after church so that we weren’t rushed and Kayley would have lots of time to figure out how to open her gifts. Since church service was a family service, Kayley got to be with us. She really liked the jumping to the music and waving at people. Like the Christmas Eve service, lots of people were coming to meet her in person. Andrew joked that we should have made an outfit that said “As seen on Facebook” since so many people look at her pictures there or here. Anyway! Pastor John taught the lesson with Chris Christian and talked about what SANTA can stand for (Sugar cookies, All is calm all is bright, North pole, Toys, Antlers), and what JESUS stands for (Joy, Everyone, Savior, Understand, Share).
After service we went back to my mom’s and had lunch before checking out our stockings (since Kayley was napping). When we put Kayley’s stocking and gifts in front of her, she wasn’t really sure what to do, but she tested them out to see if she could make noise with them and if they were edible. Once we’d start opening a gift for her, she was all about tearing off the paper. I think she liked the sound it made AND that she got a piece of paper in her hand. To Kayley, the paper was as good as the gift inside (initially).

After the fun stocking time it was time to get dinner read and wait for my brother’s and their little families’ to arrive. Of course it was great to see Jay, Amy and Kayden again (love you guys!), but I couldn’t wait for Kayley to meet her Uncle Tim, Aunty Beth, and her cousin Adelyn who is 6 months older. Dinner was fantastic, with I think everyone’s favorites; the highlights in my perspective being the stuffing and the strawberry (apple sauce) jello. And family gift giving time was fun. The girls opening their gifts was the best. Although I swear toy manufacturers try to make it impossible to actually get the toy out of the packaging.

So glad we were able to have a family Christmas at my mom’s house (we missed you, Heidi and fam, and AZ kids!). It was the first for Kayley, but the last one any of us will have at my mom’s.
