Driving

Tuesday, September 28, 2010
Before today I hadn’t driven for basically 3 weeks. Why you ask? Because any time I’m in the car I start feeling nauseated. And I figure it’s not safe to drive when feeling that way. But today my niece needed a ride home from school while my sister is out of town.

I took it easy of course. Ate some crackers on the way to her school, and got there early enough that I had time to just sit and relax in the car before having to drive again. Then after I took her home I hung out with her, my other niece and their dogs at the house before making the trek home. I wanted to make sure my nausea was under control enough to make it home without having to stop. And it was! I made it home safe and sound. ^_^ I just felt really tired and sick when I walked through the door.

House Wife

Monday, September 27, 2010
This might sound funny to you, but I was thrilled that I felt well enough to clean today. Sadly because of my nausea I haven’t been able to keep up on the housework as much as I want to. It really frustrated me that I start feeling sick if I try and make dinner for Andrew and me, or the smell of cleaning chemicals makes me feel nauseated, or the motion of pushing the vacuum makes me feel nauseated. But today I felt well enough to vacuum our whole apartment, including moving our blue chairs and coffee table out of the way and vacuuming the cat hair off of couch cushions. I feel so accomplished since I did that, and cleaned our sheets and clipped out coupons. It might not sound like much, but that’s the most I’ve been able to do in one way for a while. Now I’m ready for a nap.

Emotions

Sunday, September 26, 2010
I know I haven’t written anything for a week and a half, but that’s because the only “exciting” news is that I’ve felt like crap. It’s not fun feeling sick for about a month so far. I totally feel for my sister-in-law, Beth, who has HG (Hyperemesis Gravidarum) – which is totally worse than morning sickness.  I am happy to say I have not thrown up. Whether that’s out of stubbornness when I feel like I have to, or my body just not getting to that point, I have no idea.

But besides feeling sick this morning, I’ve been feeling very emotional. For those of you who do not know, since pregnant women have a change in their hormones, their emotions can get a little out of whack. I have found myself crying for no real reason, and then crying out of frustration for crying. This morning was just a chain reaction of tears. Thankfully I was able to make it to church with Andrew (I skipped out last week). We skipped 1st service, so I wasn’t with my 4 and 5 year olds, but we were able to go to 2nd service to hear Pastor Craig teach on the 2nd chapter of Galatians.

I was so happy to be able to talk with Shilo (one of the only two people here in Seattle who know we’re pregnant – we told Shilo and Glen since we’re doing post-marital  with them and we figure being pregnant is a huge part of our lives and affect our marriage in many ways, so they best know). As soon as I saw her after service I went straight up to her, gave her a hug and cried. She was able to give me great encouragement while we soothed sleepy baby Annabel who didn’t want to go to sleep, and toddler Micah who was having fun collecting pencils from the pews and then putting them back. Thanks to her and Andrew I felt well enough to go to a baby shower for a friend at church and had a lot of fun. And I ate the most food I’ve eaten in one day for the past 2 weeks! I really do eat more when I’m nowhere near the food when it’s being prepared.

I am so thankful for the support Andrew gave me in the morning, and both he and Shilo gave me after church. They both helped raise my spirits even though I’m still not feeling well.

First Appointment

Thursday, September 16, 2010
Andrew and I went to our first appointment for our little one. It was mostly to make sure our medical history and family medical history is documented so we know of any obvious risks that could be passed down, to ask Doc. T. what his role would be if we kept him as our doctor for my pregnancy, went over how I’ve been feeling, etc. The appointment went really well and Doc. T. answered all of our questions.

We did find out from a urine test that I am getting dehydrated and that my white blood cell count is high. I thought I’ve been drinking liquids like crazy, but I guess not enough! I’m drinking for two now, so I’m going to have to work on that and really make sure I get a lot more liquids into me. Also, with the high white blood cell count Doc. T. suspects I might be fighting the start of a UTI. Oh joy… Andrew’s going to pick up some cranberry juice for me so I can chug that and water to try and fight the possibility of a UTI without having to take any meds. I really want to stay away from taking any sort of medication unless I desperately need to. Yes, so medication are safe to take while pregnant (small amounts), but many have possibly ill side effects for the baby, and I do NOT want to risk any of that. Thus I will work on my liquid intake and hope that’s enough to fight any possible infection.

Doc. T. also told me that at this stage in pregnancy, and because of my turn-off towards food, I just need to get any type of food into me to make sure my body is getting nutrition.  He said health is important, but right now because of my nausea and aversion to food I need to make sure I am eating enough. And if healthy food is a turn off, but I really wanna eat pizza (with no cheese of course) with a side of pop tart, then that’s okay for now.

People Know

Tuesday, September 8, 2010
Yesterday Andrew and I told our parents we’re pregnant! It was so exciting to do. And it was great to hear their excitement and know that we now have people praying for us. ^_^ It helps make everything so much more real too. I mean, besides having morning sickness and testing positive on a pregnancy test, having food cravings and food aversions and having to pee all the time, there are no signs I’m pregnant. No baby bump yet because Tadpole is so dang tiny. No weight gain because it’s the beginning of pregnancy and that is just starting to slowly happen. So the fact that more people know now makes it so I can actually talk about Tadpole more.

Appointment Made

Tuesday, September 7, 2010
I made my first doctor appointment today. It’s for one week from today. What I think is funny is that from all my child development classes I have no idea what to expect for a first doctor appointment. We never talked about that even in my prenatal infant development class. I will find out prior to next week so Andrew and I can be prepared mentally, have all the info on hand we should bring, and think up any questions we might want to ask.
